I was speaking to a couple of the locals as well as the emergency services, and they all said that East Ayrshire Council had planned to build a bridge over the ford, as this is a regular occurance when it floods. Sadly, there’s no money availible just now. Having said that….four fire engines, a couple of police cars, three coastguard vehicles, an ambulance….! How much does all of this cost when it happens on a regular basis. A temporary solution may be lockable gates, as seen on the coastal road from Largs to Wemyss Bay? they are shut in stormy weather to prevent hapless motorists from being swept into the Firth Of Clyde. The people in the car were lucky. If the car had been swept to the side, it would probably have turned over and it could have been a lot worse. An unexpected snow covered the Mid-Shore Monday after forecasts originally called for rain for much of the day.
