Kilmarnock,Ayrshire,Scotland.River Rescue By Emergency Services (17sep2011)

February 23rd, 2012

The ford at Fenwick Water in Dean Road, Kilmarnock. I guess this proves a ford will always beat a Vauxhall?! I suspect the car’s electrics stopped working before it managed to get to the other side. Signs had been placed both sides of the ford. (Should have gone to Specsavers…..?!) I guess this proves we should let the authorities decide when it’s save to cross a river in spate. I was speaking to a couple of the locals as well as the emergency services, and they all said that East Ayrshire Council had planned to build a bridge over the ford, as this is a regular occurance when it floods. Sadly, there’s no money availible just now. Having said that….four fire engines, a couple of police cars, three coastguard vehicles, an ambulance….! How much does all of this cost when it happens on a regular basis. A temporary solution may be lockable gates, as seen on the coastal road from Largs to Wemyss Bay? they are shut in stormy weather to prevent hapless motorists from being swept into the Firth Of Clyde. The people in the car were lucky. If the car had been swept to the side, it would probably have turned over and it could have been a lot worse. Well done to all members of the emergency services who attended :-)

JanSnow

January 12th, 2012

An unexpected snow covered the Mid-Shore Monday after forecasts originally called for rain for much of the day. Snow began around 1 pm and meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ predict continuing snow showers until about 1 am Tuesday. Snow accumulation may be about an inch on grassy surfaces and about a quarter inch on roadways, making a slippery evening commute, according to Talbot County Emergency Services.
